Claire participated in another Challenge Day on May 17, 2003, which was
held during the Indiana Special Olympics spring games. Click on the photos
below to see a larger version.
Claire loves basketball, which is how it should be, since she's a
lifelong resident of Indiana.
Here's an athlete whose name I've forgotten, dropping rings into a
box. Although he was autistic, he was able to drop the rings after
some encouragement.
I've forgotten this little boy's name, but not his enthusiasm and
joy in participating.
Cheered on by his mother and a volunteer, he kicks a ball into a soccer
goal.
With Tom's help and Jill's encouragement, Claire hits a ball with
a bat. (Not shown: the ball flying through the air!)
Claire loves bowling! She often gets to go bowling with her class
on field trips.
Here is a full view of the bowling setup.
Even outdoors, Claire's name was announced over a loud speaker as
she received her participation medal, much to her delight.
Claire was all smiles after finishing her events.
In October 2003, Claire was featured in the Special
Olympics Hamilton County's newsletter.
Of course, it helps when the County Coordinator is your school teacher!
