Saturday, October 16, 2010: Heather and Sam were on the 6 AM news to publicize the event, a fundraiser for Special Olympics Indiana that involved rappelling down a 17-story building in downtown Indianapolis. |
The Orchard Software crew showed up nice and early for a Saturday morning. |
It's a long way up to the top of the Barnes and Thornburg building -- 17 floors, to be exact. |
Thanks to our sponsors! With Orchard Software sponsoring the event, Dave, Curt, and Debbie got to represent Orchard by rappelling. |
Brother and sister team Heather and Sam before practice in an adjacent parking garage. |
Sam and Buzz were the first to get into their equipment. |
Then, it was Curt's and Dave's turn. |
The Orchard crew smiled for the cameras. Christine took many of the photos on this page. |
We're always ready for a new adventure! With some help from friends and family, we raised $1000 for Tom to rappel as well, so we got to rappel together. Thanks to Gina, Patrick, Doug, Jen, Dana, and Gale Force for their support! |
Sam started his practice run. |
Heather's adoring fans watched her practice. |
Curt made it look easy. |
Dave was the only one in our group who had done this before. |
Curt's family and our Orchard friends watched the practice sessions. |
Next up: Debbie. |
Easy and fun -- the way a sport should be! |
Oh, yeah! |
Here goes Tom. |
He's a natural for a first timer. |
Kelly videotaped and Christine photographed everything. |
Ashley, Shan, Gina, Nancy, and Steve came out to cheer us on. |
Sam and Buzz were the first ones over the edge. They're just specks in this photo, ... |
... but they were much more recognizable once they were a few floors away. |
Up on the roof, Curt and Dave were preparing for their descent. |
Here is Dave, ... |
... and here is Curt. |
Is that a smile on Dave's face? Yes, it is. |
Here's Curt, ... |
... and he's smiling too. |
Back up on the roof, the view was quite lovely. |
The view is also quite lovely from right below the roof's edge, where Debbie dangled in mid-air while waiting for Tom to join her on the second set of ropes. |
There are Debbie's feet. |
Tom was over the edge in no time. |
Hi Orchard friends! |
Oh my. This is the view straight down. |
Yeah, we're just hanging out, enjoying the sights. |
Here we are, ... |
... and here's Debbie leaving Tom in the dust. |
Debbie took photos on the line while Christine took photos from the street. |
The people look so tiny from here! |
Ah, now they're getting bigger. It was great to have a cheering section. |
Debbie was beaming as she came in for landing, or whatever the correct rappelling term is. |
Firemen volunteers were waiting at the bottom ... |
... to help us off the line. |
Success! |
There's Tom making his way down. |
Getting closer ... |
... and closer. |
Kelly's son Mason watched through the window with his dad as Tom went by. |
And he's down successfully! It was a lot of fun for a great cause: Special Olympics Indiana. |
