In April 1997, we planned to enjoy Spring Break by driving to Seattle to visit friends and family. Unfortunately, we hit a blizzard in South Dakota, and had to rethink our plans in a hurry. We headed south and enjoyed a week in Texas instead. During our trip, we composed the following haiku to commemmorate our bizarre vacation. Enjoy!

Schilling-Bundy clan
Seattle was destination
We never made it...

Rain and fog all night
Clouds obscure the sky above
Hale-Bopp goes unseen.

Blizzard in S. D.
We turn the van to the south
Dallas, here we come.

Nebraska back roads
We miss civilization
Where is McDonald's ?

Comfort Inn ahead
Indoor pool and jacuzzi
Motel of our dreams!

Debbie is tour guide
See the Oklahoma sights
Dead armadillo.

Monday: Fort Worth Zoo
See the lovely animals
Do not let them bite.

School for air combat
Dogfighting in an A-4
Testosterone rush!

Tuesday: Billy Bob's
No dancing on the tables
Love that country sound.

Barbeque brisket
Served outdoors at the Stockyards
We love fatty meat!

Large jalapeno
Tom decides to consume it
Shouldn't have done that.

Wednesday: Grassy knoll
JFK killed years ago
Tom was not yet born.
