Saturday, July 6, 2002: We spent only a short time in Kalmar,
Sweden in order to rest up for our big trip to Berlin the next day.
However, we did get to take a look at a Russian submarine docked in
the harbor. Having had two full days in Russia, Tom didn't feel compelled
to go on board and see more. |
 |
Why not try a McThomas at McDonald's? We had already had lunch aboard the ship,
so we didn't sample Tom's tasty namesake. But we did photograph it,
of course. |
 |
We didn't have enough time or interest to tour Kalmar's medieval
castle, but we felt guilty enough to photograph it from a distance.
It's the pointy building beyond the marina. |
 |
Those Swedes have such a cool sense of design! This sculpture is
a large, smooth marble ball floating in enough water to spin in place
easily when pushed. (2005 update: we spotted another one of these in an Iceland hotel.)

 |
It seems that every European city has its own Gamla Stan, and here
is Kalmar's version. |
 |
We were treated to another gorgeous sunset around 9:45 PM as we
departed Sweden for Germany.
